Alisal High School
I was born and raised in Osaka, Kyoto, and Shiga (all Kansai areas) in Japan, so my native language is the Kansai dialect. My major in college in Japan was English Literature, and my M.A in the U.S was focused on TESOL. I was a scholar-athlete, a coach of boys' volleyball teams (TCAL Coach of the Year), and a CLTA Outstanding Teacher in California. My passion is to learn languages and cultures with students, my inspiration is to work with students, colleagues, and community members, and my motto is to study well, play well, laugh well. There are so many things we can learn. Let's explore together! (mio.nishimura@salinasuhsd.org)

North Salinas High School
Konnichiwa everyone! Born in CA, and having spent most of my childhood in Salinas, I discovered my passion for learning Japanese at North Salinas High. After high school, I studied East Asian Languages and Cultures and Astrophysics at UC Berkeley. Throughout high school and university, I went to Japan 3 times as an international student. I am moving back to Salinas after having lived in Japan for the past 9 years, where I have taught English, translated and interpreted for the local government, and served as the manager for a hostel in the Tokyo area. I am a new teacher, but I hope to share with you all my knowledge and experience, and most of all my love for the Japanese language and culture. Tanoshiku benkyou shimashou!

I have a degree in Music Therapy from Michigan State University, and also a teaching credential and Master's degree in Education from California State University, Monterey Bay. I am passionate about languages, cultures, food and music of the world so my job of teaching Japanese to American students allows me to do what I love. I strive to learn with and from my students.
