Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)
The CTC is the authorizing agency for teachers in the state of California. Applications for credentials and credential renewal go through the CTC.
Educator Effectiveness Funds (EEF)
Funding for county offices of education, school districts, charter schools, and state special schools for professional learning for teachers, administrators, paraprofessionals that work with pupils, and classified staff that interact with pupils.
Induction Coach
A teacher mentor assigned and compensated for providing guidance and support for teachers on a preliminary credential working towards clearing their credential and achieve permanent status.
Induction Specialist
A new teacher support specialist focusing on the induction program designed to help preliminary credentialed teachers clear their credential and achieve permanent status.
Intern
The teacher of record who is concurrently taking teacher preparation courses. This is the most rigorous teaching status.
New Teacher Support Specialist (NTSP)
A teacher on special assignment (TOSA) who acts as a liaison between new teachers, school site, district and teacher preparation programs. The NTSP is responsible for providing advocacy and support in the areas of credentialing, recruitment, training and daily support of new teachers. STSPs, PIPs, interns, substitute teachers and residents are on their caseload. Not to be confused with the Induction Specialist.
Provisional Intern Permit (PIP)
One of two emergency credentials available. PIPs expire one year from the date of hire. A candidate can not be recommended for a PIP if they have taken teacher preparation courses and/or been enrolled in an intern program.
Short-Term Staff Permit (STSP)
One of two emergency credentials available. STSPs expire at the end of the school year no matter the date of hire.
Support Provider
A teacher mentor who is assigned and compensated for providing guidance and support to STSPs, PIPs or interns. They must hold a matching credential and teach in the same grade-level.
