Hi there! I have been an educator since 1986, and have been teaching in Salem since 1996. I teach K-5 Music at Bates Elementary School. I first got involved in the Union as a Building Rep in 2008 and was then asked to join the Negotiating Team for the next round of Collective Bargaining. I was elected Vice-President of our Union in 2016, and stepped into the position of President in July of 2018. I am looking forward to working with you to keep our Union strong and ensure that we can provide the best education for our students and the best working conditions for our members.
Welcome back to our returning members, and a big welcome to our new SPS members! Remember, there is no UNION without U!
Hello! I am a 8th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher at Collins middle school. I have been a teacher for many years. I was also a building representative at Collins for many years as well before I ran for AFT MA Vice President. I like to read, garden, and spend my summers on plum island. I have a dog named Milo!
Hello! I am Math at the High School. I am the assistant coach of the swim team! I love to walk my dogs in my free time and design cloths for my online store. Find me at the Salem Commons in October!
I have been teaching in Salem for 5 years and am one of the Learning Skills teachers at Collins Middle School. I got involved in the union as the Member Organizer which lead to my joining the Negotiating Team for our new contract. I look forward to doing my part to advocate for our teachers and students as we navigate the ever changing needs of our schools!
Welcome to the STU website! I teach at the Collins Middle School. This is my first year teaching in Salem and I am very excited to become involved in the STU union. As STU's webmaster I welcome you recommendations to improve our communications here online. New teachers and paraprofessionals are encouraged to attend a monthly meeting to meet other SPS staff and learn about the important role a union plays to ensure your experience in Salem is the best it can be!

Hi everyone! I am Barbara McLernon. I have been a paraprofessional in Salem since 2008. My first year was at Carlton where I met super women who were strong Union leaders; these relationships set me on my Union path. I have been at Collins Middle School since 2009 where I have been both a Life Skills paraprofessional and a Therapeutic Support paraprofessional. At Collins, I became a building representative and have been part of the last two negotiating teams. Part of my Union job has the title of Social Director, a fancy name for being the scholarship fundraiser, T-shirt connection, and event organizer for membership involvement.
