Student Life
In the event that a student must miss an after school rehearsal:
After school rehearsals are graded events. Students must communicate to the director via the SHS Choir website with their reason for not being able to be in attendance well before the rehearsal. Confirmation of this reason may be made by the director through contact with the student’s guardian should the need arise. Please refer to examples of excused and unexcused absences above.
In the event that a student must miss a concert:
If the student is aware they will miss a concert they must communicate with the director no later than two weeks prior to the event through the SHS Choir website under “Absence Requests”. This gives time for an assignment to be given and completed, and for the director to communicate with the parent/guardian. Please double and triple check your calendars!
Only excused absences will be allowed a make-up assignment at the director’s discretion. Remember, there is no real way to recreate a concert experience. Students who have an unexcused absence for the “Pre-UIL Concert” (major grade) run the risk of not being allowed to perform at the UIL Contest.
Examples of excused absences:
College auditions, death of a family member, medical emergency, and most situations pertaining to the success of the student’s academic future.
Examples of unexcused absences:
Not being able to find a ride, going to a party, having to babysit, work, club sports, most non-academic reasons, birthdays
It will be at the director’s discretion as to what constitutes an excused absence.
It is the student’s responsibility to know their schedule and communicate with parents, work, and any other entity or organization that might have a conflict. Communication is key!
