Why I became a Teacher..
I was in high school when I knew in my heart that I wanted to become a teacher. When I was in elementary school our teachers would always ask us what we wanted to be when we grew up. In a panic I would always say that I wanted to be a nurse or something but never really cared to put too much thought into it. That wasn’t until I became an older sister. Growing up, my parents worked extremely hard to provide for me and my brother. They worked long hours and they relied heavily on me to keep up with house chores and care for my brother, at a very young age. I found myself helping my brother with his homework and made sure I was intentional when it came to keeping up with his school work, tutoring if he needed any and grades as well as keeping up with mine. His teachers were extremely helpful and never questioned my curiosity in his education. I really enjoyed being involved in his education and helping him with his school work. Throughout my school career, I received an abundance of love and support from each and everyone of my teachers. If they were tough, I knew it was because they cared in their own way.
When I went to High School, my freshman year, I met Ms. Sanchez. She became my dance director and part of my family. While in high school, Ms. Sanchez would help me with my school work and check my grades to ensure that I was passing my classes. It actually felt good for a change, to have someone care for me and my school work since I had been caring for my brothers. She was the one who made sure that I applied to ASU. I am extremely grateful because of the amount of love and support that she provided for me. I was able to be the first in my family to graduate from a University.
I am a teacher today because I want to be able to give back all of the love and support that was given to me throughout school. I hope that someday I can impact a student’s life and be the reason why they choose to become a teacher!
