Saint Mary's College Coursework:
HUST 101: First Year Seminar: Imagining Futures | Capstone Project: The aim of this project was to research a utopian or isolationist community, and investigate its successes, failures, and lessons, in an attempt to understand how and why humanity seeks refuge in an imagined perfect community. I researched the attempted establishment of a "Gay Liberation Commune" in the early 1970s, that ultimately failed due to the lack of buy-in and its racist, nationalist, and colonialist intentions.
Prior Coursework:
Extended Essay: The Extended Essay is a research paper very much akin to a senior thesis that students in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program must complete in order to receive their diploma. The paper must be 4,000 words, and can be in any of the 6 IB subject area. I wrote mine in English literature.
My essay focused on analyzing temporal setting and its impact on the protagonists of Margaret Atwood's Handmaid's Tale and Annie Ernaux's Girl's Story following traumatic events.
