Hi, I'm Ana Caballero! I'm a first-year Humanistic Studies and English major at Saint Mary's College. Originally from Mexico City and still a chilanga at heart, I have spent the last several years in Chicago's Hyde Park. My academic interests lie in the humanities, history, languages, and literature. Outside the classroom, I am a voracious reader, traveller, museum and theater-goer, foodie, movie buff, and art lover! I am hoping to purse a career in non-profits, public policy, or academia. I hope this portfolio brings these and other interests and ideas to light, and I hope you enjoy reading it!
My favorite book is Oscar Wilde's Picture of Dorian Grey. Outside school and the classics, I love to read what I call "Weird Contemporay Fiction;" books like Ottessa Moshfegh's My Year of Rest and Relaxation, Rebecca K. Reily's Greta & Valdin, and Kaveh Akbar's Martyr! among many others. My four favorite movies on Letterboxd are: Lost in Translation (2003), The Favourite (2018), The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), and Portrait of a (2019). Among my favorite visual artists are Remedios Varo, Sophie Calle, Claude Monet, and Vanessa Bell. In terms of music, I consider myself relatively open in taste. Recently, I have really been enjoying Lily Allen's West End Girl, Harry Styles' Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally., and Orvile Peck's Appaloosa.
