Mi Extraterrestre Sample.pdf

Sample Assignment

Follow the example above to write about your Extraterrestre.

  1. Give him or her a name. Use the sentence "My alien's name is ____." It is the 1st sentence in the sample.

  2. Describe your alien using the above format. "Tiene" means he/she/it has. You can make simple sentences saying "He has (#) eyes." etc.

  3. To vary your sentences, you could also add your alien's name or "mi extraterrestre" - my alien in front of tiene.

  4. Just give a simple description of about 3 sentences.

Student Worksheet

You may use this worksheet to complete your assignment.

  1. I have started the written part for you. Fill in the blanks to complete the sentences, then add at least 2 more describing sentences.

  2. Either re-draw your alien or cut it out and paste into box on worksheet.

  3. If you want an additional challenge, you can add color words to your description. For example - You could say "Tiene tres ojos azules." Remember the color words come AFTER the noun and need an "s" if there are more than one of the body part. This is last part is NOT necessary. It is only if you want to challenge yourself and give it a shot.

  4. If you cannot print this form, as always just recreate it on your own paper!

Week 4 - Alebrijes de Oaxaca

You have worked hard and been creative making your aliens. Now, take a little virtual field trip to Oaxaca, Mexico to learn a little about a special part of their culture - Alebrijes. Work through the videos 1 through 4 below.

  1. Watch this video to learn of the origins of the Alebrijes.

2. Now learn a little more about the alebrijes and the environmental problem that resulted from their popularity.

3. Next learn how they were used in popular American culture.

4. You will have to turn the sound on this video using the speaker symbol at the bottom left. Now watch this video to see how the alebrijes are really viewed in Mexican culture. The writers of Coco gave these creatures a different meaning and purpose than they really have in Mexico!

I hope you enjoyed your trip and learned a little more about the Mexican culture. Now maybe you can ask your grown-ups if you can watch the movie Coco. Only now, you can be on the lookout for the alebrijes and you know that they are NOT spiritual guides as shown in the movie!

If you enjoyed looking at the various types of alebrijes, I've added some more videos. You do not have to watch these, they are only if you'd like to see more!

extra, extra, learn more about it!

A little more on the history of alebrijes

Here is the parade, or desfile, that features alebrijes in Mexico City.

Did you know you could even find alebrijes in the United States?! Next time you are in D.C., maybe you could visit this museum with your family and see some alebrijes in person!
