Rising 5th Grade Summer Reading
All students need to read 2 books this summer:
"Freewater", by Amina Luqman-Dawson
"Spying on Spies", by Marissa Moss
Both come highly recommended, with Freewater having won the John Newbery Award. Both titles weave seamlessly into our Social Studies curriculum, and in the case of the first title, Freewater, the Catholic Social Teaching element of Religion!
For each book students are to complete a hand-written two page book report that summarizes the novel. See the directions below!

🧠 3. Problem & Solution
What big problem did the main character face?
How did they solve it? (3–4 sentences)
💬 4. A Quote You Liked
Write one sentence or quote from the book that you liked.
Why did it stand out to you?
⭐ 5. Your Opinion
Did you enjoy the book? Why or why not?
Would you recommend it to a friend? (3–4 sentences)
📌 Tips:
Use complete sentences and your best handwriting.
Be honest and thoughtful in your answers.
Bring this book report with you on the first day of 5th grade!
