Summer Reading and Math Assignments

Click to download the Summer Work Story Maps and the Math Facts Worksheet, which are below, if your child does not already have paper copies. Paper copies were given to students in a blue folder during the last week of school.
Make sure your child puts their name on everything they need to turn in.
Students are expected to turn in both completed Story Maps and the Math Facts worksheet when they begin second grade.
Parents can read What is Your Favorite Color? and 1 other story from the list on the Parent letter with their children and help them to sound out words.
Students should complete 2 story Maps, one for each story, which will count as 2 Writing grades. On the Story Maps, students should write in complete sentences using upper case and lower case letters correctly and end sentences with proper punctuation. Parents may help students sound out and spell words, but the words should be the child's own. Make sure your child completes both pages of each story map, including drawing a picture. Make sure your child completes both pages of the two Story Maps.
Students are to write their answers on the papers neatly.
The Math Facts Worksheet will count as 1 Math grade. Make sure your child completes both pages of the Math Facts Worksheet.
Have your child practice Math addition and subtraction facts over the summer.
Practice reading the words on the Dolch List of High-Frequency words.
