Religion
In current day Greece 90% of people are Greek Orthodox, but it was different in 750 BC. For over a thousand years people were polytheistic, which meant they believed in more than one god and in supernatural beings. There was no soarce to Greek Mythology but tales and stories were shared orally until they were written down in literature. The first written story is the Theogony. This story tells what they thought the begining was and it explained the family tree of gods, the earth, and elements. Later more stories were written and shared and were elaberated. There was many Greek gods and godesses but the 12 Olympians were the rulers of the world. They were Zeus, Hera, Aphrodite, Apollo, Ares, Artemis, Athena, Demeter, Dionysus, Hephaestus, Hermes, and Poseidon. Greek Mythology did not only include gods but also human heros who were the god's favorites and they were protected by the gods. Many stories of heros included them defeating monsters.
