Tuesday was the feast day for Saint Hilary, our patron saint. Saint Hilary is very important to the music in the Catholic church.
St. Hilary of Poitiers lived a very long time ago, over 1,600 years ago.
He loved God and loved music.
St. Hilary helped the Church by writing songs about God.
He wrote hymns in Latin so people could learn about God by singing.
His songs helped teach the truth about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Because of his work, more people began to sing hymns in church.
St. Hilary helped start the tradition of church singing we still use today.

There was learning and fun in the music room with our First Grade students.
They practiced some songs for our upcoming All School Mass in celebration of our patron saint, SAINT HILARY! They reviewed their note reading skills using a rap, a song and a saying. "I Have a Dream" is a song in honor of Martin Luther King JR. These students love the activity that goes along with it.

Happy New Year.
I hope that you had a wonderful vacation.
We will continue with our note reading skills and note value recognition. This is our continued focus for the 2nd Trimester in addition to singing songs and doing movement activities. Their second trimester grade will reflect whether they are working towards, meeting or exceeding the musical standards.
With limited guidance, perform music with expression.
With limited guidance, demonstrate performance decorum appropriate for the audience.

We listened to some books read aloud and watched some short videos. Their was some movement to do in some of them. I loved hearing the laughter and seeing the smiles on their faces.

This week, our music classes remained fully active and engaging—even though I had very little voice on Tuesday and Friday, and none at all on Thursday! Despite that challenge, instruments were played, songs were sung, dances were learned, games were enjoyed, and a great deal of learning and fun took place.
I am very proud and grateful for our Saint Hilary School students. They truly “came forth” and showed wonderful cooperation and enthusiasm.
We also added some festive Halloween songs, dances, and activities to our regular lessons. As always, students continued to strengthen their understanding of rhythmic and pitch note names while exploring the joy of music. Next week, we’ll return to our Christmas repertoire!

These musicians reviewed our treble clef note names (every good boy does fine for the lines, f-a-c-e- face for the spaces) and the note values for whole, half, quarter and a pair of eighth notes.
