We continued to work with the boomwhackers. The students are challenged themselves by playing 2 different boomwhackers while working together as an ensemble. It is wonderful to hear their laughter and see their smiles.
5.19.25
The First Graders continued to work with the boomwhackers. They will be challenged this week. Instead of just one boomwhacker, they will be responsible for 2 different notes.
5.9.25
There was laughter and learning in the music room for the First. Graders. They began to work with the boomwhackers in preparation for Second Grade. Working as a group to play a song, the students are learning to keep a steady beat, follow the contour of a melody and improve their eye/hand coordination. They played Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and Row Row Row Your Boat.
The First Graders love our Ear Training Activity: Tommy Tucker's Dogs. They listen to 4 notes and are shown 2 choice with notes on the staff. When they are correct, a picture of a dog appears, a different breed every time. We began this activity on April 11th. The students have improved a great deal over the past month. We finished that unit this week.
We watched some comic musicians perform. Again, I loved the laughter and then seeing their eyes light up as they explained how the music worked in the video clips. Air was squeezed from a ball through a tube. The different length tubes created the different pitches. The linger the tube, the lower the sound. Having just played the boomwhackers where they can see the different length tubes and hear the pitches. They were able to make the connection to the video clip.
