Sixth grade math is a transition year. Not only will we expand on the material we learned in fifth grade, but we will be working on more abstract pre-algebra skills like percents and ratios, and using formulas to find area and volume of a variety figures.
We will be using the Sadlier Math textbook and workbook for core curriculum instruction, the Simple Solutions workbook for a spiral review (if you don't use it, you lose it!) and a spiral bound math journal to work on critical thinking, data, and consumer education.
In sixth grade science we narrow our focus to Earth Science. Within the context of studying the earth, we will look at the nature of science and how scientists look at the world. Some of the topics we will look at are fossils and the history of the earth, rocks and minerals, the layers of the earth, plate tectonics, weather and oceans and the water cycle.
We will be using a variety of methods to learn the material. Written text and articles, videos, slide presentations and experiments will be our primary methods of gathering information.
