I incorporate group work into my classroom for a multitude of benefits for my students. Working in groups helps them form relationships with their peers, fostering their social and emotional growth. The students will be able to get new ideas and collaborate on work together, hearing new ideas they may not have thought of themselves. This also shows students they can teach eachother, and it does not always have to be them learning from the teacher.
Formative Assessments are a way for me to see how their students are engaging and mastering the content being taught. I use formative assessments such as exit tickets, gallery walks, self assessments, and classroom discussions. I think formative assessments are beneficial because they are low stakes, so it does not create stress for students.
Alignment
These instructional strategies align with my view on classroom management because this allows them to take charge in their learning and have the confidence in themselves to work. I believe allowing students to have control in their learning helps maintain engagement, as well as give a more accurate representation of what they are learning in the classroom. I use these strategies by allowing students to work in open spaces in the classroom, in flexible seating, or at their desks. Students will be encouraged to have a growth mindset and work to their fullest potential.
