Practice greetings and colors with your child
In 1st grade, we are learning the sounds of different vowels in Spanish to help build a strong foundation for reading. We have also begun learning greetings such as buenos días, buenas tardes, and buenas noches, Adios. Words that begin with Letra "A" "E" and "I" Students are practicing how to say how they feel, like Estoy bien (I am good), Estoy mal (I am not so good), Más o menos (so-so), and Tengo hambre (I am hungry).
We are also working on recognizing colors and shapes in Spanish while starting to read simple words.
How you can help at home is asking them to answer in spanish the following questions: Como estas? or Buenos dias, before going to bed have them say goodnigh in Spanish.
Advanced Spanish
In Spanish class, we have been learning about weather, seasons, months of the year and numbers.

The following are vocabulary words: Estación/ season, flores/flowers, soleado/sunny, buen tiempo/good weather, lluvia/rain, lluvioso/rainy, nublado/cloudy, hara mal tiempo/ it'll be bad weather.

In Spanish, we have been working on subject pronouns (yo, tú, él, ella, etc.). Students are learning how to use them when talking about themselves and others.
We have also begun learning the verb ESTAR (to be) and how to use it with adjectives to describe how someone feels or where they are (for example: Estoy feliz. / I am happy.).
Encourage your child to share some of the sentences we’ve practiced in class!
So far this year in Spanish, students have been learning how to greet others and introduce themselves in both informal and formal ways. They can also begin simple conversations by asking where someone is from.
We’ve expanded their vocabulary with more complex words and phrases such as profesora de español, compañero de clase, and mi mejor amigo. Students have also practiced using este and esta when introducing someone, which translate to “this.”
In addition, students have been working on grammar skills. They can now identify subjects and verbs in a sentence and are beginning to replace them with subject pronouns such as yo, tú, él, ella, nosotr@s, vosotr@s, ell@s, usted (formal), and ustedes.
