It is with great anticipation that I look forward to this year at Sahuarita High School!

To begin, I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education, from the University of Arizona. I grew up in Tucson and graduated from Canyon Del Oro High School. I knew I wanted to become an art teacher in 3rd grade. This will be my 11th year teaching; 7 years teaching at Ironwood Ridge High School and 3 years at Cross Middle School.

I look forward to meeting and connecting with all of my students this year. For ten years I have been given the opportunity to grow two beautiful art programs for two schools. I have developed highly effective teaching techniques and instructional methods, which have allowed me to educate all styles of learners, and foster a fun and engaging learning environment that effectively teaches art appreciation, promotes creativity, and encourages growing independence. Recently, I have had the experience of working at Ironwood Ridge High School for 7 years, where I was involved in several dynamic leadership and professional growth programs, with some of the most inspiring students I have had the privilege to work with.

One of my greatest strengths as an educator is compassionately meeting each student’s unique needs by developing a personal understanding of each of them. I achieve this by seeing and assessing the students as individuals, and tailoring lesson plans to help them illustrate themselves both as an artist and individual. I offer one-on-one and after-school support to ensure that all students are able to grasp the learning materials and enhance their unique skills. I work with the community to display and support student art-including mosaics, murals, and art shows to include all. I travel with students across the world to promote art appreciation. My goal is to increase student motivation, awareness, and understanding of the arts.

In addition to teaching I am a working artist! I create watercolors that are on display in several museums, along with the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild. I also sell pet portraits at the Fall and Spring festivals for the Tucson Museum of Art.
