Weekly Letter 10/27/23

Friday, October 27, 2023

Dear 4L Families,

Another amazing week in 4L in the books!

This week in Wit & Wisdom, we embarked on a new journey exploring Patricia Polacco’s revelatory autobiographical story, Thank You, Mr. Falker.  Together, we read this inspiring true story as a class and became literary investigators as the students learned how to distill the text to its essential literary elements and meaning.

4L is getting in the spooky spirit of Halloween! Friday’s field trip to the Annie Cooper Boyd House was splendid. The children sang familiar tunes as we made our way to and from the historical home. While there, they learned about the pioneering Sag Harbor local, the village’s notorious whaling industry, and the significance of preserving history. If you happen to walk by the Annie Cooper Boyd house this weekend, take a look at the front porch for a glimpse of pumpkins carved by 4L. The children had a blast! Thank you to Deanna Lattanzio, Nancy Achenbach and all at the Sag Harbor Historical Society for making this day so special.

Thank you to our class moms, Jennifer Gilmore, Jennifer Wolfson, and Megan Chiarello for visiting our class this week and leading our group in a spectacular craft! The children were bubbling with excitement over their cauldrons!

This Tuesday is Hallowen. Students should come to school already dressed in their costumes. We line up in front of Il Cappuccino and march up and down Main Street.

As 4th Grade leaders of our school, please be mindful that your costumes are not too spooky so as not to scare younger members of the SHES community.

Many of you may know Dr. Grazina who visited Morning Program this week and encouraged all students to participate in a candy buyback fundraiser. Students can donate their candy to those serving overseas! This is a great school-wide initiative.

This week in Science Lab, we dissected the different parts of a flowering plant and learned about texture! We constructed our very own “eyes” and the students enjoyed “seeing through” the process! We love experimenting in Science Lab with Ms. Drake!

We are very proud of our students for completing their first Module 1 math assessment on Tuesday! We are looking forward to reaching for the stars in Module 2.

Important Dates:

Tuesday, October 31st is Halloween. The SHES parade will begin at 2pm on Main Street in Sag Harbor.

Have a spooky weekend!

Mr. Quinn & Mrs. Lattanzio
