This assignment has two parts:
Overview: While you may already have some "go-to" artists whose work you connect with, this is your opportunity to expand on that group. Art 21 has been featuring contemporary artists for some years now. Choose among these artists for this assignment. The information you will need should all be on the sites provided, but feel free to fill in with additional research if you want more. Then think about the ideas you as a designer/artist/learner interest you. You'll create a working list of ideas that might seed your work for the coming year.

SW 2 - Artist Investigations -- Research 2 Artists & their Art
Explore the work of artists from this Art 21 link scrolling down for a complete list of featured Art 21 artists. Choose two artists who inspire you, whose work is pleasing or intriguing to you. Use a minimum of one sketchbook page for each artist and number your responses to the information you record per the four points below.
1. Images of the artist, and their artwork;
2. A bit of biographical information on the artist and what might form their Point of View;
3. Summarize what you think they are investigating through their creative production;
4. Some specific reasons why the artist and their artworks inspire you.
Be prepared to submit clear images of your sketchbook pages as directed in Canvas for this part of the assignment.
PBS Art21 is the source for a great selection of contemporary artists for this assignment.
SW 2 - 3 Different Themes for My Possible Investigations -- Brainstorm ideas and questions you might pursue
Hopefully looking at what other artists are investigating has broadened and deepened your own thoughts about how you might engage in a sustained investigation of an idea through your art next year. You will have time this fall to settle on the one guiding question you will use to drive your work, but for now create a list of three very different themes in your sketchbook for ideas you might focus on. Use a separate sketchbook page (or spread) for each of these three different themes, as seen in the example of one page, below. Try to avoid being too general or broad, and it is a good idea to briefly describe (thumbnail sketches are fine) what a few artworks for each theme might look like to help make your ideas more concrete.
Be prepared to submit clear images of your sketchbook pages as directed in Canvas for this part of the assignment.
