For my major project I've made a comic book, Tales of the Altered is the first issue in a new comic book series. The story is based in medieval times and follows the story of Colter and Boneless as they battle through a camp of evil Malters and their devious leader, Figarus.
I chose to make a comic book for my major project because I've always loved comic books and wanted to develop my illustrative skills and visual style. In this project I made the logo, page layouts for the panels, text layouts and composition, and 21 pages of illustrations. I've certainly improved a whole lot throughout this project and worked with some amazing and talented people to get it done.
21 pages
93 panels
49 illustrations of Colter
38 Illustrations of Boneless
26 Malters
31 Illustrations of Figarus
For my collaboration I created the story of the comic with Lachlan Hall who also wrote the script, as well as Charlotte Morrow-Smith who took my illustrations and created a motion comic as well as editing. With music by Jayden Bloch, and Harry Ivers who did the guitar riff and sound design and audio post production by Angeline Carlos.
My Process to make all the pages consisted on 3 steps:
Sketch poses and figures
Line work and details
Colouring and Backgrounds
Over all it took me around 4 weeks to make each part throughout the whole comic, I found the most difficult part to be finding a unique and visually appealing style for the colouring, but once I found that style it all came together very nicely.
This project has been the biggest challenge I have ever taken up. At the start of this project I was still pretty new to digital illustration, so making this comic book took a lot of learning and motivation to stick with and get it done. Looking back now I certainly could've done parts better but I got it done with a result that I am happy with and proud of. So thanks to my awesome team and lecturers who made the whole thing possible and for the continuous motivation and support from friends and family.
Thanks for reading through my major project and I hope you enjoyed.
