This annual event provides a networking opportunity to learn tips, strategies, and best practices to increase enrollments in all of our programs. We learn about challenges and solutions that other Community Education departments face daily.

How did this event benefit you or Saddleback College

We represented Saddleback College by being chosen to present and share our Before and After School program (BASE) and partnership with Capistrano Unified School District in a well attended break out session.

Personally, this conference allows us to network and learn from our peers. Each year, we strengthen our relationships and reach to our network of practitioners during the year to collaborate. We are excited to implement programs and procedures that will streamline operations as well as generate potential revenue.

How will the information learned be shared with your department and the college

We will share the best practices learned at our next staff meeting and collectively decide what we can implement. In addition, we are submitting a write up for the President's letter regarding our presentation of the BASE program at the ACCE conference.

At this event I learned about the implications and importance of collaborating with multiple campus departments to serve disproportionately impacted student groups such as undocumented students. Research shows that it takes multiple ways of support for students to continue on their path to academic success. This means that the whole campus needs to be on the same page as far as how we treat all students (for example, culture of care or empathy). Overall it was great to see how research and practice come together to show student affairs professionals and faculty how to use research based practices.

How did this event benefit you or Saddleback College

This event benefited me because it highlighted the importance of research and how it can be used to inform practice. This is helpful for me because I work with students success programs and I am constantly thinking about ways I can help students based on their needs. Now it is more common that students need resources for housing, food, child care, mental guidance, and general college transition guidance.

How will the information learned be shared with your department and the college

The information I learned will be shared with my direct supervisor so we can have conversations during our staff meetings about how we can continue to support students who need additional resources. For example, we can make a list of who we can refer students to if they need food or housing resources.

We learned how to control ourselves, our time and our reactions to events beyond control. Worked to develop skills that will get results in the least amount of time, juggle priorities, interact with others in positive ways. We assessed our individual behavioral styles. We learned how to resolve team conflicts using emotionally intelligent approaches, recognize the sources, symptoms and effects of stress and developed strategies for successfully preventing, reducing, and managing distress. We worked on skills to remember names and faces, verbal instructions, and be able to deliver a speech or conduct a presentation without the need for written notes.

How did this event benefit you or Saddleback College

Working for the President and his team, all of these skills are definitely required in daily interactions, and this course helped me to refresh them and my mind, post-pandemic.

How will the information learned be shared with your department and the college

While I am more than happy to share some of the exercises and tools that I picked up at this conference, my exposure to the college is best served by example and through moral support.

The AEMA convention teaches the importance of staying current and knowledgeable with new technologies regarding athletic equipment safety. The AEMA also expresses the importance of team work as it relates to student/athletes mental and physical health.

How did this event benefit you or Saddleback College

I believe both myself and the college benefit. I benefit by increasing my knowledge base and skills level.

Example: The knowledge and understanding of how to properly assess athletes to fit safety equipment, helmets and shoulder pads.

How will the information learned be shared with your department and the college

I share the information and proper techniques for fitting student/athletes with my KNEA departments athletic equipment specialist/drivers, coaches and the students themselves.

I do and will continue to encourage Athletic Equipment Managers to become certified and continue their knowledge base as it relates to safety equipment. The technology that is now being used in safety equipment " football helmets" is evolving at very rapid pace.

I gained an deep insight into the various forms being offered at different colleges and how faculty + staff can help. As a result, I hope to be able to bring more inclusivity towards our EOPS efforts to support students through outreach, counseling, and workshops. The barriers that the LGBTQ+ community faces are shared by the students we serve and creating more visibility is needed.

I complied my notes that I took during the event and shared it among all my staff/faculty. In addition, I set up links of what other colleges are doing to gain inspiration for our future retreat where we plan future events or goals.

The benefits are multidimensional in terms of information relating to different GLBTQIA individuals. Additionally, social networking was the biggest benefit especially relating after a pandemic and funds available for this population.

So much! At the president's retreat there was idea sharing on how to run a Senate on your campus, a first 100 days of your presidency workshop, Keynote speakers on Caring Campus and "Leadership Mindset" were fantastic! Also learned more about other campuses, information on surveying classifieds on your campus, as well as general leadership skills for classified on a college campus.

How did this event benefit you or Saddleback College

It will benefit Saddleback so much! We have tools to start back up our Caring Campus initiative, we have a better perceptive on a "leadership mindset", ideas about how to organize senate as a whole and how I will approach leading the Senate. Really valuable for any classified to attend this event.

Motivating in a way that recharges me and provides a spark for new ideas and ways to treat our athletes here at Saddleback college. As athletic trainers we need to know many aspects of injuries/illness so it is nice to get a review on multiple topics that we do not deal with on a regular basis.

It will be beneficial for every student athlete. By polishing my skills and seeing new studies the athletic trainers at Saddleback College will stay sharp and provide the best medical care for all 24 sports here.

While at the InfoComm 2022 we were able to observe new technology that could benefit our campus. Our team met our goal of talking to representatives of various vendors to get insight on the new or upgraded technology that were unveiling. We scheduled booth tours with our current company that we purchase equipment from and also competitors to determine our future purchases and implementations and make them our campus standards.

How did this event benefit you or Saddleback College

While attending the event, our team was able to visit different booths and view new technology and audiovisual equipment to replace or upgrade the current equipment we have on our campus. We were provided with demonstrations of the equipment and brief breakdowns of how the new equipment has been updated. We spoke to representatives of different vendors to determine if their equipment would benefit our campus. We looked for different solutions of equipment that could resolve the back-order of said equipment due to the world wide chip shortage.

How will the information learned be shared with your department and the college

We will share all the information that we received with our team and management. Our team and management will hold a debrief of the different vendors that we meet with to determine our future implementation of AV technology on our campus.

I was able to learn about new technologies that have been out or are soon to be released. I also was able to network face-to-face with our regional reps for the manufacturers and vendors that we standardize on as well as networking with reps for companies that we may want to work with in the future.

Going to this event grants me a greater understanding of the technology use cases for all currently deployed technology across campus. I was also able to brainstorm with manufacturer reps regarding alternative configurations and hardware that we may need to be used in light of the global manufacturing and shipping delays.

I will be able to share my knowledge of alternative configurations and other technologies that we can move towards. I will also be able to update our campus standards for audio visual and infrastructure with the products and integration best practices.

I learned the importance of community at this event. Along with one Faculty, Laura Haight and myself attending - we were proud to know that 30 past/present of our ceramic students were able to attend as well. We brought our ceramics community from Saddleback College and introduced them to the larger community of Ceramics in America and around the world.

How did this event benefit you or Saddleback College

This event greatly benefited both myself and Saddleback. For myself, I was able to reconnect with past alumni and colleagues who continue to be part of my professional network - artists, teachers and lab techs that I can reach out to with technical questions directly related to my job. For Saddleback, it continues to grow as a leading center for the Arts in southern California, the greater State of California and all the United States. I was proud to be showing my own personal ceramic work in two different shows and even more proud to tell people about my work and the incredible job that I have here at Saddleback.

How will the information learned be shared with your department and the college

I've met with most of our department's faculty and shared my experience. I, and those current students that attended the conference have gathered multiple times to discuss what we saw, learned and experienced. One major take away was meeting an artist named Virgil Ortiz, who we are planning to have this coming fall give a demonstration and artist talk for our students and community to attend.

This conference provided a variety of workshops for researchers and grant recipients. I signed up on workshops that directly affect higher education and the kind of grants that Saddleback College receives. I learned about updates on the Uniform Guidance which is the regulation that covers federal grants; enhancements in internal controls, best practices in surviving federal audits, knowledge in preparation and application Facilities and Administrative rates, various topics on compliance and post award issues that need attention. My favorite takeaway is the number of tips and tricks I learned from fellow participants, especially those who use Workday Grants accounting.

How did this event benefit you or Saddleback College

This event provided me with tools and knowledge that I can use every day as I perform my work as Senior Accounting Specialist at the Grants Office of Saddleback College.

How will the information learned be shared with your department and the college

I have initially shared the feedback to my supervisor and colleagues. I will prepare a list of suggested improvements in our processes based on what I’ve learned, and this will be discussed in our department meeting.

Financial Research Administration conference gather professionals, who work in the sponsored research offices that are the recipients of federal, state and local agencies grants. It was a learning experience, exchange of expertise and knowledge, ideas on how to implement grant-related processes on budget, compliance, sub-recipient monitoring, audit, F&A rate, case studies as well as discussion groups and updates on the new Federal Regulations and updates going forward. It was a great conference!

How did this event benefit you or Saddleback College

I learned a lot about compliance with federal agencies, main points on audit, internal controls, sub-recipient monitoring tools and how to extract and interpret the data from federal audit clearinghouse. Great comparison of processes between big decentralized institutions ( Harvard and others ) and small institutions ( City of Hope and others ). Participated in the Discussion groups and shared experience and expertise on the budget management, preparation and tracking of the match in WD as well as got some tips from other WD uses regarding Award and Grants module in WD.

I have already presented my feedback to my department, discussed key points. Will share presentations and hand-out materials and probably present on some hot topics .

The monthly meeting is where information is shared about regional planning and college individual events that effect career education. I am now the only consistent person that will attend these meetings for Saddleback College. The topics for this meeting including volunteers to score future application for CC Counselor of the region, CPA's southern workshop (Eric Hilden is apart of this organization), review of the CCDA conference May 8th 2020, roadtrip nation was were our meeting was hosted. The Chancellor's office of CCC system purchased RoadTrip nation subscription and we learned more about the company, toured the building and roadtrip RV's.

How will the information learned be shared with your department and the college

Already shared with department. If the division has time during a staff meeting I am more willing to share the online resource for students and career explorers.

From the OC Career Education Network meeting, it was planned symposium for better relationships for k-12 to community colleges.

How did this event benefit you or Saddleback College

Sholeh Alizadeh and I carpooled to the location and after checking in, and many introductions and a few awards, we had two keynote speakers that spoke of the many issues facing college students at any age. Then we broke out into conference style workshops. The first workshop I attended was about online resources from California Career Resource Network or Cal CRN, including the new upgrades to CACareerZone.org a free career development and exploration system we use in our office and with students. The second workshop was from Dr Kevin Fleming who has created educational videos for the California Community Colleges in LA and OC. Kevin’s workshop was on “Asking the Right Questions to facilitate Student Success”. His workshops are always entertaining and to illustrate how we don’t notice unexpected events watch The Monkey Business illusion. The third and fourth workshop periods I attended Creating a Safe and Inclusive Schools for LGBTQ+ community and Creating Safe and inclusive Schools for Transgendered Students. These workshops were mostly towards the k-12 population but with recent changes in California state law, we must change our practices in higher education to support these diverse populations. I would attend this event again in the future. The organization that created this symposium is part of the monthly meetings, OC Career Education CC Network, I have been attending to support student success in the area of career assessment and exploration.

I concentrated on the most important skills for navigating the product life cycle on the job, from planning and prioritization to validating assumptions and monitoring metrics.

It allowed me to be able to better create productions and deliver productions in a timely and customer driven fashion.

How will the information learned be shared with your department and the college

I plan to implement the business processes that I learned into the day to day operations into our division. It will help increase transparency, communication and workflow.
