How to create a semester of success
Starting Week 2, expect to spend about 12-16 hours per week on our coursework. Every week we will have reading material and assignments to help develop specific writing skills and on specific subject matter to cultivate critical thinking. These assignments are submitted by the class start.
Make a Plan: Think about how you can schedule in this time with the rest of your responsibilities while also leaving time for yourself. What does that look like for you? Are you an early morning person? Can you get the most done with the rising sun? Or are you a night owl and would rather work beneath the stars? Creating a weekly plan to map out each of our responsibilities and free time can really help!
Office Hours are a great way to get ask questions, clarify material, get help on a paper, or even just brainstorm ideas for an upcoming assignment. I hope to see you all at least once this semester!
Learning Resource Center (LRC): Sometimes there just isn’t enough time to offer students all of the help they may need on an assignment. And if office hours are also not convenient for you, then the LRC is the next best option to receive one-on-one, in-depth help on your work. There is even online tutoring!
This course is ZTC which means Zero Textbook Cost. All of our reading material is online in digital format, free articles, or other digital resources. Save everything to google drive. You get a free drive account with your student email!

Google Drive & Google Docs
As a Saddleback College student, you have a free Google Drive and Google Docs Account! You can access these accounts through your Apps Portal just like you access Canvas and your school email. Look for the google drive icon, select, and use your same login as you would Canvas.
Students will need google docs to compose all of their writing in this course. This ensures none of your work can be deleted or lost! And, it creates a history of your writing, which can be very helpful in the editing process or in the case of AI concerns. All work will be uploaded into Canvas. But for papers, you will also include an "Editor" google drive link in the comment box of each major essay.

Space out your work, and the class is fun. Cram it all in before the deadline, and it's a nightmare. and DON'T GET BEHIND ON THE READINGS
Be prepared for tough, but not unfair grading. It's a nice class if you don't really like reading books, since we read snippets and articles. She delves deep into the writing process and really makes you think.
DONT SLACK, do your work as soon as its assigned and it wont be so difficult, also take use of office hours for questions and don't be afraid to be wrong
Don't be discouraged by mistakes because you will make them, talk to the professor if you feel behind or discouraged, and set aside specific time to complete assignments.
Work hard on every paper and assignment. If you don't put in effort, then chances are you aren't going to get an A. Your grade in this class reflects how much time and effort you put into the papers you write. If you simply don't care, it's going to show.
