Student Career Discovery Dashboard - The Maine Department of Education recently partnered with the Maine Department of Labor to launch a new student career discovery dashboard that presents data on in-demand jobs and wages in a manner that is accessible to students in grades 6-12.
US Department of Labor Occupational Outlook Handbook - The Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH) is a career resource offering information on the hundreds of occupations that provide most of jobs in the United States. Each occupational profile describes the typical duties performed by the occupation, the work environment of that occupation, the typical education and training needed to enter the occupation, the median pay for workers in the occupation, and the job outlook over the coming decade for that occupation.
Junior Achievement Career Speaker Library - Junior Achievement of Maine has created 7-10 minute videos from some of their amazing volunteers. JA Career Speaker asks volunteers to share their career path and inspires students to dig deeper into their industry or learn more about their business.
Destination Occupation - Employers featured on the Destination Occupation site tell their employees’ stories and educate people about who they are, what they do and why a career path to their company is desirable. In a few hours, students and job seekers can visit dynamic (and often hidden) Maine employers to learn about hundreds of different careers.
Bendable Maine - This is a (mostly) FREE learning marketplace, in partnership with the Maine State Library, which allows all residents to easily discover and access content that is just right for them on a wide variety of subjects and then acquire new knowledge and skills through online courses as well as local, in-person learning opportunities. (Side note: When there is a cost to the user, it is clearly indicated.) Attaining new skills to improve one's job prospects is extremely important, so much of the learning on Bendable Maine is work-related. The platform includes career pathways, backed by Maine employers, where you can earn a digital badge, giving you a leg up in your job search.
Maine Virtual Career Fair Video Archive - The Maine Virtual Career Fair videos are organized by sector, so you can browse and view ones that are relevant to your interests. In each 30-minute session, you'll learn about the profession, college and training paths, pay and benefits. Whether you're itching to leave Maine or planning to stick around after graduation, there's something here for you!
New Ventures Maine - Workshops are offered at no cost, brought to you by New Ventures Maine in partnership with Maine Career and Technical Education/MaineDOE, the Maine Department of Transportation, and community businesses and sponsors. There is information about the Totally Trades! program as well as many other career related classes.
