On September 18th, Homestead hosted a district wide event called Arts Under the Lights, which was similar to lasts years Reading Under the Lights.
This year, students got the chance to learn about different art mediums and styles while getting to create their own. All six of the elementary schools fifth grade choirs preformed a handful of songs, as well as both the middle schools, and Homesteads show choir. Families got to enjoy all of this while getting to have a fun snack or lemonade from all of the food trucks that were there.
It was a great night for everyone involved and was a huge success with over 5,000 people attending the event. There were over 800 student performers, over 175 student volunteers, and over 100 staff volunteers. Thank you to everyone who helped and participated in the amazing event!
This is one example of a Haverhill Kindergartner's example of their monster.
This is the monster as it's reimagined by a Homestead student.
This year, Homestead brought back their popular Homecoming dance. Instead of having a Semi Formal that would take place early December, it was switched to a much warmer dance in September. Homestead also brought back their famous cookies that they stopped serving this past school year at lunch. It was a great night for everyone involved!
The Homecoming king, Rayan Iqbal, is featured in the center alongside our Homecoming queen, Grace Dickmeyer. Congrats!
Clubs!
We want to take a moment to encourage all Spartans not already involved in an extra or co-curricular activity to find a group to participate in. Joining a high school club is a great way to enhance both academic and personal development. Clubs provide an opportunity to make friends with similar interests, a place to do something you feel good about, and a way to make school something more than just a place to go to class. For students planning on going on to college after graduation, sustained and meaningful club participation, which means joining a club that pairs well with your future plans and then sticking with that club throughout your high school career, is something very beneficial to include in university applications. Club, team, and performance group participation fosters personal growth, social skills, and community involvement, all of which prepare students for any type of future endeavor. Click here to view Homestead’s list of extra and co-curricular activities. If you have an idea for a club that we do not currently offer, please email Assistant Principal Jen Bay (jbay@sacs.k12.in.us) to learn more about starting a new club at Homestead.
