Maggie Borders from both Homestead & Woodside has been chosen as the March recipient of SACS Education Foundation Superstar Award!!! This award is given to teachers and staff members who truly go above and beyond for their students. Each month, a committee will review the list of employees nominated to select a SACS Superstar award recipient. The winner selected will receive recognition and $250 to thank them for making a difference in our students’ lives and in our community. Madame Borders received this award on May 20, 2025. She was nominated by a student who had this to say:
'Madame Borders is hands down one of the most influential and supportive people in many student’s lives. She was my French teacher freshman year, and is much more than ‘just an instructor’ to her students. Mme Borders goes out of her way to create a safe and kind environment for her students (both at Woodside Middle School and Homestead High School)! It is amazing to see how easily others open up to and find comfort in her presence. On a dreary school day, she was nothing less than a ray of light. Each day I would look forward to seeing her and truly enjoyed learning French in her class. Beyond creating a wonderful classroom, Mme Borders helped me find my passion.
She shared her experiences as a youth exchange student which deeply resonated with me. My passion for language, culture, and global exchange was fueled by her and inspired me to pursue an international experience. Because of Mme Borders, I found my love for French and am going to spend my junior year studying abroad in the French-speaking portion of Belgium. This opportunity wouldn’t have been made possible without her. She has been an incredible mentor, always encouraging me to go beyond my limits and reach for my goals. Her guidance has played a significant role in shaping my academic journey, and bettering the lives of countless students. Her efforts and willingness to go out of her way to help her students is truly something special. She is absolutely deserving of the SACS Superstar award as she has changed my life forever through her kind-hearted nature and endless amount of support.'
SACS Superstar!
The SACS Education Foundation has created a new opportunity to honor SACS employees and would like your assistance. Students, community members, and colleagues can nominate a SACS employee who has gone above and beyond to impact our students. Any SACS employee can be nominated, including teachers, custodians, bus drivers, and nurses. If you see a staff member who excels at their duties and goes the extra mile to help others, nominate them for this award by scanning the QR code on the flier. SACS staff spends so much time doing their best to make the learning environment for students as good as possible, so it is our turn to show them appreciation by acknowledging the work of the individuals. Take some time to think about who you know is making a big difference and submit the application by the 15th of each month, where the nominated staff members have a chance to win $250.
Thank you,
SACS Education Foundation
