Dr. Ginder's Retirement

Dr. Park Ginder has been in SACS for 11 years. He has been in administration for 22 years and an art teacher for 16 years, having been in this career for 38 years. Before his time at SACS, he was an art teacher and department head of Shawnee Middle School and Northrop High School. From 2002-2011, he was the assistant principal at Carrol High School, and 2 years later became the principal at DeKalb High School. Families new to SACS know Dr. Ginder as the superintendent of Southwest Allen County Schools, which he has filled since 2021. But for 8 years, Dr. Ginder was the principal of Homestead High School. During his time here, he enacted many programs and improvements with the help of ideas from teachers and the admin team: Mrs. Summers, Ms. Lackland, Mr. Zvers, Mrs. Bay, Mr. Kintz, Mr. Lake (retired), Mr. Clark, and Mr. Johnson.

He has added more programs for alternative academic pathways, including the Middle School Alternative Education Program, virtual school options, Impact Alternative School, Directed Learning Lab, Credit Recovery Classroom, and Senior Experience. Furthermore, he has made certain tracks more accessible for students. He increased the amount of Dual Credit and AP class options, as well as added more ways to earn an Academic Honors Diploma and Core 40 Diploma. He also helped realign calculus coursework to benefit those who chose to pursue calculus in high school. Dr. Ginder has also worked to offer the Physical Education waiver and a test-out option for Personal Finance.

Dr. Ginder says that both being the principal and the superintendent are very time intensive, with usually 65 work hours a week. But as the principal, his work was a lot more "go go go" and along with being involved "with students on an hourly basis." As the superintendent, he "[gets] to know the adults" and loses out on the student stories. He loved the interactions he had with various students and traveling to music competitions. Being the superintendent is hard, but Dr. Ginder is very lucky to have worked with other business managers and superintendents "who provided [him] opportunities and learning experiences that many other administrators never get." For his retirement, he plans to become the Executive Director of Grow Allen and spend more time with his family. Dr. Ginder is an inspiration to teachers and students, and seeing him leave is a great hardship. We are sad to see him leave but wish him luck on his future plans.
