Wall of Fame

Attention Students!

The Wall of Fame is a new development at Homestead that aims to highlight the accomplishments of the student body in the classroom and beyond the school walls. We want YOU to let us know about all the awesome things you do both in and outside of school! It could be doing a cool research project, serving the community in a unique way, being involved in an arts performance, and so much more! Click the link below to let us know about the awesome ways you are showcasing your talents, and you could be featured here in our monthly newsletter and in our new "Wall of Fame" by the 500's hallways!

Pink out

On Friday October 13, staff and students at eleven schools in Fort Wayne donned their pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. The Homestead Spartan Army leaders along with two students from Snider's student section led the "pink out" theme for the games. Jack Burda, one of the leaders of the Spartan Army, contacted schools in the area to get their participation and sent out press releases to local news outlets and The Journal Gazette.

Their goal was to donate all the money raised from the donations at the Oct. 13th football game to a local nonprofit organization, Breastie Boxes who provide care packages to those suffering from breast cancer in Fort Wayne. The founder of Breastie Boxes, Erica Hyatt, is a survivor of breast cancer herself and thoughtfully designs each package for every recipient.

Out of the 11 schools that participated, Homestead was able to raise the most money. If you want to donate or volunteer at Breastie Boxes, you can do so at their website www.breastieboxes.com.

spartan alliance Band is State bound

Since the beginning of July, our Spartan Alliance Marching Band has worked tirelessly on their show entitled Rhapsodic. The show features the songs "Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2," "Rhapsody in Blue," "New World Symphony," and the famous "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. All the visuals are very hypnotic. The props have a vortex cover at the beginning of the show with the guard spinning matching flags. During the ballad, some props are set on the ground and reveal a ying-yang design. Finally, the show ends with a bang, and all the props turn to a vivid orange, blue, pink, and purple design.

Spartan Alliance has been very successful with this show, earning 1st place at the September 9th Bluffton Invitational, September 23rd Carroll Invitational, & September 30th Indiana State School Music Association (ISSMA) Invitational at Homestead. At the October 7th ISSMA Regionals, Homestead earned a gold rating with music distinction. At the October 21st Semi-State competition, the band encountered some difficulties with their props but powered through to not only qualify for state, but ranked 5th out of 20 bands overall. At the October 28th State competition at Lucas Oil Stadium, Spartan Alliance won 5th place with an outstanding performance! They still have a few more performances in Bands of America (BOA) Grand Nationals on November 9th and November 11th.

ISSMA is celebrating the 50th year anniversary for state finals. Impressively, this year is the 36th year in a row that the band has gone to state finals. If you see a band member in the hallways or class, make sure to congratulate them on their hard work this past season!
