Academics

Hello Spartans!

Below you will find important academic information to help you be successful in your studies both inside and outside the building this semester.

Internship

Attention all Juniors with a 3.0 GPA or higher:

There will be a MANDATORY call out meeting on January 19th at 7:10 am in the Grey Box for anyone interested in participating in the HHS Internship Program next school year. You will be given a program overview, including the requirements and what to expect as a Homestead Intern. The HHS Internship Program is one of the most popular courses/experiences offered at Homestead. As such, this meeting will serve as the first round in the selection process. Students who miss this meeting (without prior notice to Mr. Rogers) will not be allowed to enroll/participate in the internship program next school year.  Attending the meeting doesn't obligate you to enroll in the program, but it leaves the option of enrollment open to you.

Please contact Mr. Rogers brogers@sacs.k12.in.us with any questions!

National honors society inductions

Homestead High School is a member of the National Honor Society, an organization that recognizes students with exemplary academic success.  Then on the basis of leadership, character, and service, the Homestead faculty approves all members of the Society and reaffirms their nominations of seniors.  Senior members of the Society must continue their high level of academic and personal performance, maintain a 3.900 or above cumulative GPA, and be involved in NHS-approved service projects throughout the year.  In order to graduate with National Honor Society honors designation, members must be active participants who have fulfilled all requirements of the organization.

This year's induction ceremony will take place at Homestead High School on November 15th at 6:30 in the Legacy Gym. Homestead's NHS is run by Dr. Ford with senior Ben Morton as the President. This year, 148 Homestead students have met the qualifications and have the opportunity to be inducted on November 15.

dual credit courses

Homestead High School offers many Dual Credit courses allowing students to challenge themselves across all disciplines. Dual Credit means that students have the opportunity to earn college credits in addition to high school credit, if students register and certain prerequisites are met. Dual Credit is a great opportunity for students to experience the rigor of college while in the supportive environment of high school. Students who have registered with the partnering college are reminded that grades are recorded on an official transcript of the partnering college. Although deadlines have passed to drop courses, students who are academically struggling in dual credit courses should be aware of the college’s drop deadlines and policies. Students who drop their college enrollment will remain in the class and can still earn high school credit.

The withdraw deadlines for both PFW and IU were in October, however there is still time to withdraw from the Ivy Tech dual credit courses.
