SAT Day

SAT Day

SAT day at Homestead will occur on Thursday, March 2nd, 2023. As a replacement for the ISTEP+ exam previously administered to students, all Juniors are required to take the SAT to fulfill standardized testing requirements and will be required to be on campus during the day. Students in grades 9, 10, and 12 will not be on campus and will have separate instructions to follow in the form of e-learning during the day. Please read the information below for specific instructions for each grade level.

Grade 9 Instructions:

All Grade 9 students will be off campus on March 2nd spending the day working on college and career preparation online. There will be no traditional classwork assigned on this day from their teachers, but students are expected to be working through college and career prep instructions via their Class of 2026 Canvas course. Grade 9 students should look in their "Class of 2026" Canvas Page during the day for instructions. Students will be working toward completing the Ivy Tech Knowledge Assessment to qualify for Dual Credit courses. This is an incredible opportunity for students to prepare for more difficult coursework that can earn college credit while they are still in high school!

Grades 10 & 12 Instructions:

All Grade 10 & 12 students will be off campus on March 2nd and should treat the day as an E-learning Day. They will be assigned traditional coursework from their teachers that they will be expected to have completed by 11:59 pm for attendance purposes. For instructions, students should check their Canvas calendars for each class taking place on March 2nd.

Grade 11 Instructions for Students:

On Thursday, March 2, 2023, Homestead High School will be administering the SAT in person to our grade 11 students at Homestead.  Because the SAT has replaced the ISTEP+ as a graduation qualifying exam, it will be given at no cost to students. All students in the Class of 2024 are required by the state of Indiana to test in person on Thursday, March 2.  It is important to note that students CANNOT use an SAT exam score that they have taken in the past or will take in the future in place of the March 2nd administration. The school test, unlike the Saturday exams, is a digital exam that has been specifically designed for the Indiana graduation requirement. This is why ALL Juniors must be present for this exam.

Juniors will be the only students in attendance at Homestead on March 2nd.  Students in grades 9, 10, and 12 will have an e-learning day.  Buses will run as usual.

The SAT exam will focus on reading, writing, and math skills.   Because this is such an important exam, Homestead encourages all Juniors to practice for the SAT using one or more of several free practice sites.

The Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy.  Students can connect their College Board account to Khan Academy, generating customized practice experiences in the areas of greatest impact based on their most recent PSAT or SAT performance.  Students can find their unique PSAT Code in the left-side toolbar in PowerSchool.

The Official SAT Practice webinar

The new Schoolhouse.World SAT Bootcamp. Registration is open Monday, January 30, through Wednesday, February 8. Sessions begin on Friday, February 10. Note that the SAT School Day is scheduled for March 2, so juniors will have only two-and-one-half weeks of the boot camp prior to statewide testing.

Additional information about SAT content can be found on the College Board SAT webpage.

This is a tremendous opportunity for all of our students as the SAT is a standardized college entrance exam accepted by every college in the U.S. and over 600 institutions internationally and is used as one component of the admissions process.  The SAT also connects you to scholarship opportunities and can be used to qualify for free college classes offered during your senior year.

BEFORE March 2:

Please read through “The SAT Student Guide for Digital Testing” provided by College Board.  If you would like a hard copy, please stop by any of our offices at Homestead for a copy.

Please read through the list of colleges and their codes provided by College Board PRIOR to March 2nd.  Each student should come prepared with a list of four colleges (and their corresponding code) where they would like to send their SAT scores for free.  Students will enter this information during a Preadministration Session before the SAT exam begins on March 2.   Some of the more popular Indiana colleges have been highlighted in green.

In addition, Student Search Service is a free, voluntary College Board service that helps colleges and scholarship programs find and get in touch with students that might be a good match.  This means you can spend less time searching for colleges and scholarships.  By opting into this service, you are providing information to College Board on your behalf.  Because personal information is required, parents can opt their child into this program by clicking on the attached link; however, Homestead will not be opting any students into this service.

Be watching for an email from a Homestead teacher in late February.  This teacher will inform you of your testing classroom at Homestead on March 2.  The email may not be from one of your current teachers.

On March 2:

Juniors must be present and in their assigned testing area no later than 7:45 a.m.

Please bring the following on test day (March 2):

-snacks and a drink with a lid/cap (no cans)

-calculator (click this link for a list of  acceptable calculators)

-pencils

-laptop and charger (Homestead does not have extra chargers)

You will be permitted to leave Homestead at the conclusion of the testing session WITH PARENT PERMISSION. If you wish to leave school early (at approximately 11:45 a.m.), your parents will be required to complete an online form granting permission for you to leave the building. The link to that form will be sent to parents via email in February.  Those who do not have permission on file will be required to stay for the remainder of the day. Lunch will be provided for students who choose to stay for the full day and for students who will be taking the test with extended time testing accommodations. Buses will run as usual at the end of the day. If you choose to leave school early, it DOES count as one of your 10 PX days.

Please note:  Your cell phone and smart watches will be turned off and stowed away in your bookbags during the entirety of the exam.  You will not have access to them until after testing is complete around 11:45 a.m.  This is not an exact time.  The testing is conducted digitally and may not end at exactly 11:45.

If you have any further questions, please email Assistant Principal, Mrs. Hoeppner (shoeppner@sacs.k12.in.us).
