Hello Haverhill Hawk Families!
I am Mrs. Ashley Ransom. I have the distinct honor of serving as the Principal of Haverhill Elementary. I am entering my 6th year as Principal at Haverhill, with 5 previous years of experience in administration at Covington Elementary and as a principal at Lincoln Elementary in Huntington County School Corporation.
For those of you that are new to Haverhill, I send you a big WELCOME! To all families returning and joining us - I believe that having YOU - our families, our community, teachers & staff - support our educational goals allows us to be the best school in Southwest Allen County. Thank you for investing your time as a volunteer, donations, completing assisments, reading with your child, attending meetings with our team, and your labor of love to our school. Since you spend time pouring into our school, our educators can focus on safety, standards, experiences for students, and our students well-being.
Are you excited to get your kiddos back in school? Are you ready to get them on a routine, not eating all your food, meeting new friends, up before noon, accomplishing goals, and ready to tackle a new grade?
Our Haverhill team is beyond excited to welcome students and families back on Monday, August 4th for Back to School Night. Our teachers have poured a lot of time, energy, and love into their classrooms - doors will open for Kindergarten and PreK students at 5:30 PM. Grades 1-5 may join classrooms from 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM. During our back-to-school night, pack up your student's bookbag and bring all of your supplies to the B2S night, meet your teacher, meet your bus driver, walk the building, visit previous teachers, and visit our PTC table for a popsicle. Don't forget to say "hello" to our school counselors, coaches, Mrs. Kottkamp, special education teachers, speech, and special area teachers, too!
As we head into our 2025 - 2026 school year, remember that all of us are Haverhill Hawks. We have an incredible amount of support and people that surround us - ready to pitch-in, be a solution seeker, a listening ear, point you in the right direction, or just be a support to you and your family. Please reach out to your student's teacher as a first line of defense with praises, concerns, conflicts, and questions. Then, I am happy to collaborate as a team with the teacher, school counselors, and grow our school support team. Together, we are setting the foundation to your student's future success. I can't wait to start our year-long journey together on Wednesday, August 6th when doors open at 9:05 AM.
Educationally Yours,
Mrs. Ashley Ransom
👋 First Day of School – Wednesday, August 6 - Family Welcome & Transition
Please utilize the same mode of transportation on day 1 as you will on day 180 - this allows for consistency and establishing routines. Haverhill staff is prepared to hold hands of Kindergarten students, support new students, find the classroom teacher, or cafeteria for students to eat breakfast. The first several days of school are "all hands on deck" and we are ready to love students and families.
If you are able to hold hugs and kisses outside and allow for students to walk up to the door and to class, that will allow for us to build independence.
A change from previous years for us is that families will be welcome to walk their child into the building and down to their classroom on the first day of school. This is a special day, and we want to communicate our commitment to building strong connections with our families across the district.
We will make a school-wide announcement at 9:20 AM to have parents say their good-byes in the hallway. Parents will only be allowed to walk students to the classroom on the first day of school.
NEW: Student ID Badges
Pre-K - 5: Wear Everyday for Transportation and School Purposes
🆔 Student ID Badges Coming This Year to:
Scan on/off the bus
Enter/exit the building
Access breakfast/lunch
Check out library books
This system is designed to streamline processes, enhance student safety, and reduce manual tracking. Students will receive the badge at back-to-school night.
Please be ready to take the badge back and forth each day to scan on and off the bus.
Technology Update
Starting this school year, ipad devices WILL NOT be coming home in grades K-5.
Charging stations will be set up in each classroom in order for ipads to be charged and remain within the classroom. iPads will come home in anticipation of weather events, at teacher discretion, or homework purposes. Otherwise, charging blocks, cords, and iPads will remain at school.
Do you know who can help you at Haverhill with any technology device question? Mrs. Hargan!
She is ready to serve our staff and students with any questions about technology, testing, technology needs within the classroom, remote learning days, or your technology equipement needs.
She can be reached at ahargan@sacs.k12.in.us or call the office at (260) 431 - 2901.
Transportation: Carpool, Walker, Bus
Watch out for your youngest student to receive your family carpool number at Back to School Night.
At some point during our school year, you will need this number (enrichment, after school activities, no bus, etc.). Keep both numbers for your vehicle to hang in your rearview mirror, or cut it into two numbers. Share the number with another trusted and approved person to pick up your student(s). NO STUDENTS will be dismissed to handwritten numbers or persons that do not have a visible number from THIS school year. You will be asked to pull around to the front and check-in at the office - be ready to show your driver's license if picking up in the office.
Walkers and all bike riders should ALWAYS walk on the sidewalk to use the cross-walk. Never cross in front of the school. Bike riders will walk their bikes to the crosswalk corner, then they may ride to their destination. Bikes, scooters, and any other transportation should remain at the bike rack in front of the building.

Safety drills will occur once a month at Haverhill.
You will be notified the week of the drill through Parentsquare, which is a new law that passed for all schools to notify families of when drills will occur. The "emergency take action" picture you see is our visual protocol to keep all of us on the same page.
Our Fall HES Safety Week is scheduled for Monday, August 11 - August 15. All classrooms will discuss procedures for this week in order to have students be prepared. We want to ensure that all students feel prepared and practice drills, we do not want to scare, reinact, or create trauma producing environments.

If we do not hear from a guardian about the student's absence by 9:30 AM, we will call emergency contacts, email who's on file in Powerschool, then we will make a visit to the home to ensure the student is safe.
Treats - Individually Wrapped
Any classroom treat must be individually packaged due to allergies. Please make sure that any treat or snack that you bring to the classroom is packaged with an ingrediant list.
Below are a examples and non-examples of individually packaged snacks. Non-consumables are a great idea for students when thinking about prizes or "treats" for the classroom.
These would be sent back home with your student.
