A group of Homestead High School students were selected to attend the recent Nontraditional Employment for Women (N.E.W.) Workshop. The N.E.W. organization seeks to empower and inspire young women in the region through a community of support, knowledge, and connections in nontraditional career fields. This one-day workshop connects students with multiple career mentors in a variety of industries, offering hands-on experiences and guidance. We are very proud of our Homestead Spartans and thankful for this wonderful opportunity!
On November 14th some of Homesteads distinguished academic students competed at the We the People Regional Competition. Many Homestead students did very well, but there are a few we would like to highlight for their outstanding constitutional knowledge.
Unit 5 received a Unit Award with a perfect score. Unit Team members are: Macy DeVries, Jacinda Hoekstra, and Caya Nelson. The Unit 5 Award recognizes the team with the highest score on Unit 5, which focuses on Political Participation and First Amendment Rights. Students earn this award by delivering an outstanding opening statement and responding thoughtfully to judges’ follow-up questions, demonstrating constitutional knowledge, historical context, and application to contemporary issues.
Clubs!
We want to take a moment to encourage all Spartans not already involved in an extra or co-curricular activity to find a group to participate in. Joining a high school club is a great way to enhance both academic and personal development. Clubs provide an opportunity to make friends with similar interests, a place to do something you feel good about, and a way to make school something more than just a place to go to class. For students planning on going on to college after graduation, sustained and meaningful club participation, which means joining a club that pairs well with your future plans and then sticking with that club throughout your high school career, is something very beneficial to include in university applications. Club, team, and performance group participation fosters personal growth, social skills, and community involvement, all of which prepare students for any type of future endeavor. Click here to view Homestead’s list of extra and co-curricular activities. If you have an idea for a club that we do not currently offer, please email Assistant Principal Jen Bay (jbay@sacs.k12.in.us) to learn more about starting a new club at Homestead.
