SACS Superstar!
The SACS Education Foundation has created a new opportunity to honor SACS employees and would like your assistance. Students, community members, and colleagues can nominate a SACS employee who has gone above and beyond to impact our students. Any SACS employee can be nominated, including teachers, custodians, bus drivers, and nurses. If you see a staff member who excels at their duties and goes the extra mile to help others, nominate them for this award by scanning the QR code on the flier. SACS staff spends so much time doing their best to make the learning environment for students as good as possible, so it is our turn to show them appreciation by acknowledging the work of the individuals. Take some time to think about who you know is making a big difference and submit the application by the 15th of each month, where the nominated staff members have a chance to win $250. This January, Mr. Haff, Social Studies
Thank you,
SACS Education Foundation

Congratulations to Homestead’s We the People 2024 Regional Unit Award Winners. We the People: The Citizen and the Constitution is a comprehensive curriculum for high school students covering the history and principles of constitutional democracy in the United States. The program culminates with simulated congressional hearings where students testify before a panel of community representatives acting as a congressional committee. Students then answer follow-up questions posed by the committee members and demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of constitutional principles. Awards are given to the groups based on their presentation and their ability to support their positions with historical facts and case law.
Homestead students Joe Altier, Lucy Carender, Raymond Cisco, Eli Dornte, Aiden McCawley, Maeve Ohlinger, Evan Rumschlag, and Maxwell Zandarski won this year’s awards for their presentation and discussion of Unit 2: How Did the Framers Create the Constitution? and Unit 6: What Challenges Might Face American Constitutional Democracy in the Twenty-first Century?
The Homestead Spartan Alliance marching band competed in State last month. This season, the band remained undefeated until the state competition, where they placed 5th out of 10 bands competing. They scored the highest they've placed in years, receiving a score in the 90s. Alec Shilling, one of the assistant band directors, says that "The band was fantastic" "and they have been all season. They have worked very hard in rehearsal and have fought through any adversity in their way all year. We are extremely proud of the work they have done, and the way that they have set up a fantastic experience for the Spartan Alliance bands of the future."
After the state competition, the season came to a close midway through November at Grand Nationals, where bands from across the United States competed at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Spartan Alliance Band placed 15th out of 113 competing bands! Senior Section Leader Grace Hensley looks back on her final year in the Spartan Alliance Band fondly. "I think it was a really good season, it was by far the best I've seen in the past four years. Not only did we place well throughout the season, but everyone had a lot more motivation to work and put in the effort." She believes that the band has the potential to place higher in upcoming years. "There was a dip in membership with Covid, but now the upcoming classes are back to their normal size. The staff has a very clear direction of where they want to go with the program, and as long as people work and perform like they did this year, the results will be good." Spartan Alliance students and directors are excited to continue to improve in the upcoming seasons.
