Throughout the school year children will have the opportunity to:
· Be involved in the creation of class rights and responsibilities
· Verbalize feelings about, and observations of art works using appropriate vocabulary
· Listen as others are speaking and ask appropriate questions to enhance their learning
In doing so students will be exposed to grade level appropriate information as seen below.
Language:
Students will use visual tracking, left to right, and top to bottom directionality, listen to motivational readings, follow directions (oral and written), sequence activities, locate information and details, identify the main idea and themes of various works, identify cause and effect, use one’s own perspectives, experiences and opinions to view and discuss various forms of the Arts, respond to questions about various works “according to the piece”, title and summarize their own works.
Math:
Students will explore 2 and 3 dimensional shapes, left and right directionality, attributes by size, color and shape, understand the concepts of over, under, above, below, on, beside, next to, between, longer than, shorter than, equal parts, similarity, identify symmetry, and measure.
Science:
Students will predict outcomes, draw conclusions, enhance observation skills, experiment with colors, mediums and styles, recognize and suggest properties, classify, explore the difference between living and non- living things, understand gravity’s effect on art works of different mediums, represent the seasons, recycle, represent butterflies, practice problem solving, represent land and seascapes.
Social Studies:
Students will discuss citizenship, laws and rights, be exposed to various holidays, beliefs, customs and traditions of the United States, be exposed to urban, suburban and rural images, view images of various famous architectural structures, be part of a community, discuss calendars BC and AD referring to art works , experience works and styles of the Native Americans, Europe, Africa, the Americas, and discuss the effects of the Colonial and Revolutionary wars and industrialization through art.
