About Mrs. MacDonell

Welcome!

My name is Patricia MacDonell and I am pleased to be teaching the children of Lynwood ...and grateful for the opportunity to learn from them! They teach me something new every day. It is wonderful to see the expressions of surprise and enthusiasm as they discover new artists and take creative risks.

I have been in the field of education for approximately 25 years. My career began in Sachem as a special education teacher at Sachem North High School. I then was a resource room teacher at Grundy Avenue Elementary School until I left to have my family. While my two children were younger, I worked as a preschool teacher at United Church Preschool, in Sayville. When my youngest was entering Kindergarten I returned to work. I became the art teacher at Tecumseh. Ultimately and ecstatically, I find myself here at Lynwood as the art educator. In all the areas throughout my career, I used the arts as a tool to teach my students. I teach them, not only about art. I teach them about life through the arts. I am thrilled to be able focus on the arts as I help to prepare your children to be creative thinkers, communicators and problem solvers!!

My goal is to use my experiences to introduce the children of Lynwood to our first written language. They will enter into the world of art through various experiences, techniques, methods and materials. The children will "meet" many artists both past and present, see and learn about various structural pieces and delve into foreign cultures and beliefs, as well as experience the uses of art in our everyday world.

It is my hope to foster and encourage a love of art and creativity in all my students by experience and example.
