High School Art Program
The Sachem Art Department faculty has committed their educational expertise to provide the best in Art Education. Students who pursue an Art Sequence will be exposed to and educated in all areas of art and design. This will assist them in evaluating potential careers in the visual arts.
The Art curriculum has been revised to reflect the rapid growth of career opportunities in the Design and Visual Communication fields. Enrolling in the courses offered by the Art Department, students can create a specific concentration and develop a college entry portfolio. Students may choose courses with concentrations in: Fine Arts and Design, or Commercial, Digital Arts or both. In all courses students will maintain a portfolio of all project work which will become the property of the student upon completion of each course. A rubic as been developed by the art department that sights key areas of project objectives.
The Five Credit Fine Arts Sequence
Students who complete a five credit Fine Arts Sequence of a Regents Diloma with Advanced Designation may be exempt from the three credit second language mandate. Students selecting this sequence must pass one entry level class, Studioin in Art (1 cr.), Media Arts (1 cr.) or Introduction to the Fine Arts (1 cr.), and complete a total of five credits from the following list of courses:
