FUNDAMENTAL QUESTION:
How do the underlying principles of electromagnetism govern modern day technology?
Unit Learning Goals:
By the end of this unit, students will….
visualize field lines and understand how matter accounts for, and systems behave in a magnetic field.
understand the relationship between Oerstead principles, Faraday's Law, Electromagnetic Induction and Lenz Law, and predict the behaviour of a given system based on this understanding and the application of Right-Hand Rules.
perform experiments to determine the properties of electromagnetic fields around a wire and the creation of current from changing magnetic fields.
demonstrate an understanding of the properties of magnetic fields, the principles of current and electron flow, and the operation of selected technologies that use these properties and principles to produce and transmit electrical energy.
