Enjoy some picture of the learning taking place in Division 12!
We enjoyed rock climbing at Stellys earlier this month! The students did great and we are so grateful to the Stelly's students who helped us climb!
We learned a lot about the densities of different liquids when we created Density Towers in science! Liquids with different densities will "sit" on top of each other. The highest density liquid will be on the bottom and the lowest density liquid will be on top. We used honey, syrup, water (with blue food colouring), oil, and rubbing alcohol. We then expored how different object acted in the liquids. Can you see the green bead? It floats in the blue water but sinks in the oil! Neat!
These beautiful pieces of art were created this week by Division 12. I am so impressed with how they turned out. We talked about the math behind it (using number lines, creating parabolas etc), and the students enjoyed using thread to create their designs! It has made a wonderful display.
Division 12 created these beautiful spring bunnies by first using either warm or cool water colour paint for the background. They then used a thin Sharpie to create line designe on the bunny. A simple art project that brought lots of colour to our classroom!
We were excited to meet with our buddies on Monday to teach them all about biomes! Big Buddies sat with their Little Buddies and showed them their biome diorama and taught them about the different plants and animals found there! There was lots of learning and the grade 4/5s were such great teachers:)
Merci, Mme. Lisik for organizing this great presentation! Yum!
We enjoyed a fun lesson on "curling" in the gym in early February. The students had a great time. We may have some future curlers in our class!
I can't take credit for this beautiful art idea - that goes to Mrs. Russell who teaches at Prospect Lake - but I'm always so amazed with how fabulous these turn out!
On Friday, we saw our little buddies and completed a collaborative poster with them. Division 12 also painted poppies to go on our bulletin board.
Today we had our school Remembrance Day Assembly where we honored those who have served Canada.
Here are some pictures of the fall art that we worked on this week. Students created Zentangles on plain paper. They then had 2 leaf patterns - one was to cut out and use as a stencil for scrapbook paper. Then they cut out the scrapbook paper shapes to glue on another leaf art - so many steps! So many small piece! But I was very happy with how they turned out.
Students also completed a Candy Corn math activity on Monday which made our board look nice.
Students did SO well with our bike training this week. On Tuesday we had an in-class session where Lana (our leader) taught us things like the parts of the bike, safety/rules on the road, helmet use, and how to check if our bike is safe to ride.
We enjoyed talking with our Little Buddies about our favourite things to do in the fall. Big Buddies helped the grade 1s write their sentence and then each student drew and coloured a picture of their favourite thing.
We spent the afternoon with our little buddies. We helped them read and colour a book about Orange Shirt Day.
Our little buddies are from Mrs. Barnes/Mrs. Gill's grade 1 class. We look forward to seeing them a few times each month. We have lots of fun activities planned for the year!
We are excited to welcome Teacher-Librarian, Mrs. Gill, into our classroom every Friday morning where she will share the first chapter of a new novel each week. Students will have a chance to preview a new book in the hopes of one peaking their interest to dive into a read.
Today we read chapter one of Shamus, the Urban Rez Dog, P.I. by Leslie Gentile.
Here is our bulletin board with our math "Me by the Numbers"
In groups of 4, students were given 2 pairs of scissors, a meter of tape and one large sheet of construciton paper. The task was to create the longest paper chain in 5 minutes. After a 2 minute brainstorm, they got to work! There were many different strategies used and it was interesting to see how teams worked together. Team Purple was the winner this year!
Every student in the school coloured an Eagle feather for the bulletin board in the front entrance way. At Brentwood, we soar together!
We take take of ourselves, we take care of this place, and most of all we take care of each other!
