Welcome!
My name is Jessica Sargent and I am so happy to introduce myself as your child’s grade 4/5 teacher this year. This is my second year at Brentwood Elementary School and third with the Saanich School District. Prior to that, I worked for 12 years in the Greater Victoria School district where I spent a lot of time working at the middle school level.
My family and I live in the heart of Brentwood Bay and am so thrilled to be working and living in such a wonderful community. I look forward to a wonderful year together.
As you know we have a multi-aged group this year. Our class is made up of 16 grade 5s and 9 grade 4s for a total of 25 students. I have experience teaching multi-age classes and feel confident that your child will finish the year strong and with all the skills they need for their next grade.
About Me:
I grew up on the peninsula and attended schools in Saanich. After graduating from the University of Victoria, I began my career in the Greater Victoria School District before officially moving to Saanich District in 2023. In addition to my teaching degree I also have a diploma and certificate in Special Education and a certificate in Teacher Librarian Studies. At home I am kept (extremely) busy chasing after my 3.5 year old daughter and my 5.5 year old son (who is excited about attending “Mommy’s school” this year). I love being outside and exploring our beautiful community. You can often find me at a local beach, on a forest walk with my kids, or enjoying a park or playground.
This year I will have a teaching partner who will work on Wednesdays. Mrs. Van Helvoirt (who you may know as our Integration Support Teacher here at Brentwood Elementary) will be teaching Division 12 on Wednesdays. Mrs. V and I job shared last year as well and we look forward to another fun year of collaboration and learning. We will work closely together to support the students of Division 12.
My classroom door is always open after school and you are welcome to pop in to say "hello" any time.
I'm excited to get to know your children this year.
