Welcome!
My name is Jessica Sargent and I am so happy to introduce myself as your child’s grade 4/5 teacher this year. This is my third year at Brentwood Elementary School. Brentwood is a wonderful school and I feel so lucky to work with amazing colleagues and an equally amazing group of students.
As you know we have a multi-aged group this year. Our class is made up of 14 grade 5s and 10 grade 4s for a total of 24 students. I have experience teaching multi-age classes and feel confident that your child will finish the year strong and with all the skills they need for their next grade.
About Me:
My family and I live in the heart of Brentwood Bay and I love working and living in such a wonderful community. I grew up on the peninsula and attended schools in Saanich. After graduating from the University of Victoria, I began my career in the Greater Victoria School District before officially moving to Saanich District in 2023. In addition to my teaching degree I also have a diploma and certificate in Special Education and a certificate in Teacher Librarian Studies. At home I am kept busy chasing after my 4 year old daughter and my 6 year old son. I love being outside and exploring our beautiful community. You can often find me at a local beach, on a forest walk with my kids, or enjoying a park or playground.
Our Classroom:
It is important to me to create a positive, safe, and comfortable learning environment for all my students. I have high expectations in my classroom. Our class follows the main rule of: "In this class we take care of ourselves, we take care of each other, and we take care of this place". Every choice we make comes down to these three ideas.
I want my students to have fun when learning and do their best work. Learning should feel meaningful and I want students to understand, make connections, and find relevance in the curriculum. It is important to me that we (child, parent/guardian, teacher) are partners in your child's academic journey. If you have questions or concerns about your child's learning this year, please reach out.
My classroom door is always open after school and you are welcome to pop in to say "hello" any time. You'll find us in room 105.
I'm excited to get to know your children this year.
-Jessica
