Research. Record your background research, noting sources you use (including URLs or bibliographic data). Summarise articles and publications you review (or plan to review) during your background research, any interviews you conduct, and notes related to feedback, suggestions, or troubleshooting you receive from a teacher or mentor. This information will make compiling your bibliography much easier!
Tensile strength is the ability of a material to resist tearing. An example of tensile strength is how much force can be put on the material before it tears apart (pounds per square inch)
Shear is when soils fail when one block of soil moves relative to another block and the soil particles at the failure plane move over each other. When particles move across each other, the resisting (or shear) force is friction.
To measure shear strength, we use the handheld vane shear device.
Factors that affect shear strength include the physical characteristics of the soil (particle size, shape, distribution and orientation) as well as the stresses acting on the soil at that location.
Friction is a key element of shear strength.
As normal stress increases, so does frictional resistance, or shear stress.
Soil can be categorised into sand, clay, silt, peat, chalk and loam types of soil based on the dominating size of the particles within a soil.
The chemicals that affects the pH value of soil:
Acid (ph < 7)
Sulfuric acid (Around 6 months - a few years according to google)
Lemon Juice (According to a random dude on internet, it works for about 6 hours)
Vinegar (May take several months)
Alkaline (ph > 7)
Limestone (A few months to a few years)
Sodium Bicarbionate (around 24 hours)
For drawings in proposals, ensure that there is no drawing, and that the drawing is made up of shapes and straight lines.
Write formula out, show meaning of variables
E.g. W = mg
W: weight (newtons, N)
Put a spacing between the number and the unit
