• A requirement for Earth life

• Temperature on exoplanets is the first thing to consider because of its influence on water

Sunlight

• Only a small amount of light is needed from the central star is required to provide for photosynthesis

Nitrogen

• Life require a small amount of nitrogen

• After carbon, nitrogen is the next most important thing that living things need

• They need it for fixation

• Is an important factor in the assignment of habitability in exoplanets

Oxygen

• You breathe, use, are in oxygen

• It is important for breathing

• Even the plants need it

• Without it, everything dies

Habitable Exoplanets

• Will have to be between 0.1 and 10 of Earth’s masses

Alien Telescope Array

• Basically many telescopes behind one big telescope

Today, we learn about exoplanet life and the potential signs of alien life. Examples of what we learnt are such as what a plant must have in order for it to have signs of alien life. I felt that the presentation is fine because they managed to allow me to understand more about exoplanet and alien life. I hope that we are able to do more hands-on activities.

Life Of An Astronaut

To Be An Astronaut

Citizenship

• ROSCOSMOS → Russian citizen

• NASA → US citizen

• ESA → European citizen

• CSA → People living in Canada, more so for citizens

Physical

• 150cm to 190cm tall to fit

• Must have good eyesite

• Must have good blood pressure

Education

• Masters in STEM field

• Doctorate

NASA Requirements

• 2 years of professional experience

• 1000 hours of piloting aircraft

Training

• Evaluation period for 2 years

• Will participate in astronaut training programme

• Learn how to stay calm under pressure

• Extremely physically challenging and psychological challenging

  • 6 hours in space suit doing things with your hands

Routine

• Wake up and shower

  • Swallow toothpaste

  • Pee through a tube to recycle into water

  • Use suction to suck up the shit

• Food

  • Dehydrated snacks

• Exercise

  • 2 hours a day

    • Will mitigate decrease in bone density

Space Walk

• Improving the spacecraft

• Test new equipment

• Repairs

• Installing new equipment

• Do experiments

• Train by floating in water for 7 hours for every one hour they are spend spacewalking

Today, we learnt about the routines of astronauts in space. I felt that the presentation was an interesting one as we managed to get a glimpse into the lives of astronauts. I hope we are able to do more hands on activities.
