Although there are many solutions to this pressing issue, the first thing that we should do to stop from this problem happening in the first place is reflect whether WE are able to take up this heavy responsibility - we should consider whether bringing a furry friend is more for entertainment purposes or would it a affectionate relationship between pet and owner, man and animal. WE need to knowledgeable of the heavy duties and task we would commit to when getting a pet such as feeding it, grooming it, etc.
However, if you do already have a pet, you need to make sure you are attending to all its needs. You should value your relationship with your pet and never lose sight of that. This is one of the many reasons owners abandon their pet - too lazy, too expensive, etc. Well, these are the things they should have considered when taking up a pet, and now the animal had to suffer the consequences for the ignorance of its owners. Being abandoned causes emotional and mental hurt and it would be hard for the animal getting used to another owner just because of its mental trauma.
Of course, if you have kept up to all the responsibilities then good job but there are people who CAN keep up and do not have a pet yet. In that case, you should adopt a pet, not only are you going to get a new friend but also you are helping that pet out of its rather miserable state.
