We are Group 2 from Brunei GCP and this our advocacy project. Our project focuses on educating the public who wish to get a pet as they have to realise the heavy responsibilities that they would have to bare in order to properly take care of their pet. Some people do not realise and as a result, they are not able to take care of their pet properly. This means that they would be forced to abandoned their pet for animal organisations to take up. The stray pets cause many problems and also people abuse these pets too.
We decided to do this project as we see many stray animals roaming around our residential areas in Singapore, however, we did not see a single stray animal in Brunei which shows that the people in Brunei take care of their animals properly and as a result there were very few numbers of abandoned animals. So, we wanted to raise awareness about the responsibilities one faces when taking care of a pet animal.
This is a pressing issue as number of animals taken in by Pet organisations may continue to increase if people going to become a pet owner are not informed about the heavy responsibilities of taking care of their pet properly. So, it is essential to tackle this problem so that there would be a significant decrease in the number of stray animals.
