Teacher Assignments, Weights, and Measures

RISD’s goal is to reward excellent teachers who show evidence that students who are enrolled in their classroom grow academically. In order to do that, we must use a system that accurately measures growth and performance. RISD reviewed all assessment systems in place to determine which student growth measures would accurately measure growth and performance. Using the Statewide Student Performance Standards RISD will do the following:

Raymondville Early College High School will use BOY TAG district created assessments that are aligned to the TEKS to measure students knowledge in ELAR content and EOY ELA/EOC STAAR Assessment results. The results will accurately measure individual student performance-whether a student performs on, above, or below grade level. Most importantly, these growth measures reveal how much growth has occurred between testing events, such as Beginning of Year, Middle of Year, and End of Year assessments. Educators can track growth throughout the school year and track growth over multiple years.

Myra Green Middle School will use the Renaissance growth measures at the BOY, MOY and EOY to monitor and see progress of 6th grade reading over time.

Pittman and LC Elementary Schools will use the TPRI assessment for 1st grade children. Growth will be measured by comparing the growth between the BOY and EOY testing events using the TPRI rubric measures.

What criteria will be used to select Teachers for designations?

During the 2021-2022 school year, data will be collected for an overall rating. The two data components used for the overall rating are: T-Tess Observation Ratings- 45%, and Student Growth - 55%. Once the data is compiled and submitted, teachers will be ranked in comparison to other teachers in the state. Teachers who fall into at least the top 1/3 in the state will be given a designation and funds will be awarded during the 2022-2023 school year.

What is the amount of the additional compensation?

TEA designates that at least 90% of the funds received will be spent on teacher compensation on the campuses where the designated teacher works. Each campus is designated as Tier 1,2,3,4, or 5 according to the percentage of economically disadvantaged students enrolled. The funds available for designations are:

  • Master Level $12,000 - $32,000

  • Exemplary Level $9,000 - $18,000

  • Recognized Level $3,000 - $9,000.

TIA-Explanation of Growth Model

English I & English II

Student growth will be calculated from Beginning of Year (BOY) district created assessment using the Percent Increase Model, whereby the difference in raw score from the BOY to STAAR assessment will determine the amount of growth for the student for the year of study.

Raw score differences from the two assessments in each content area will be used to calculate an end-of-year student growth level per content area.
