Hi! My is Tanvi Rami and my project is on 3-D bioprinting arteries to eventually be used in surgeries. In the U.S. alone there are roughly 18.2 million adults who have coronary artery disease (CAD). Annually there are 600,000 deaths in the U.S. and CAD is the third leading causing of death world wide. There are three methods of treatment for CAD, as of now, which are drugs, angioplasty/stent placement, and coronary artery bypass surgery. These treatments are not affective as they have a 44% fail rate due to arteries becoming reblocked. 3-D printing fits into this because a 3-D printed artery can be used to replace the artery with blockage. This would not only fix the issue, but allow for a long term solution as the artery can be designed specifically to the patient's case. My research project is determining the smallest possible diameter that can be printed with two different hydrogels. I will be printing basic artery structures with bioink (hydrogel) and determining how small I can print them when hollow.
Donations!
Due to the high price of materials I would appreciate to recieve some donations! If you are interested in my project and would like to support it, please feel free to donate any amount! Every littel bit helps!
