My research project originally was going to be about 2 games Event 0 and Road 96. However, once I began collecting data, I realized that analyzing two full games within the given time frame would limit how much detail and consistency my research can have.
Because of this, I made the decision to narrow my focus on Road 96 alone. Allowing me to focus more in depth on the game's narrative structure and player agency, rather than rushing through surface level comparisons. While this change shifted my plan it ultimately strength the quality of my research.Â
This chart represents the qualitative coding matrix I'm using to analyze how player's choices and narrative adaptions in Road 96. Each row documents specific moments in gameplay that was impacted by players choices, while the columns are categorize by the time type of choice, supporting evidence, and how this would impact the narrative differentiation.
Through actively playing the game and coding these moments, I've begun to notice that most player choices don't dirastically alter the main storyline. Rather, it's more minor and can branch small scenes in; many of the changes I recorded in the matrix fall into the low and mid range intensity, suggesting that so far Road 96 prioritizes more subtle narrative adaptions rather than overly branching.
