This research taught me many things. I learned about how different wavelengths, specifically red, blue, and green, can have a very significant influence on tissue regeneration on planarians. I discovered light therapy can have a huge effect on simple organisms like planaria, and that each wavelength impacts the regeneration speed differently. This made me explore the potential applications of light therapy in regenerative medicine and gene expression. Moving onwards, I would like to explore how my findings could be translated to more complex organisms or even human skin. I'm also interested in diving deeper into the cellular aspects of this growth process.
Through my presentation and academic paper, I was able to learn about how to properly communicate my scientific research findings to an audience. The process of presenting and defending my research taught me to anticipate and critically think on the spot. I was also able to gain experience in writing a formal research paper. These skills are necessary for my future in the STEM field, since I would like to pursue a career in medicine that correlates with research. Knowing that I was able to present my research and write a paper on my processes and overall findings really boosted my confidence in public speaking, presenting my ideas clearly, and how to effectively back them up with evidence.
This research taught me how to manage my time effectively, resilience, and that I am capable of conducting independent research. I was able to expand my knowledge on the value of trial and error, and as a student, I was able to understand how rewarding it is to put time, eforrt, and resources, into researching a question that truly interests me. Personally, this experience really helped me develop patience, think more creatively, and increase my curiosity in the subject of science. I think this class really had a giant impact on me and it taught me the importance of persistence and adaptibility, as I pursue a career in a similar field.
I would like to thank Mrs. Dobos and Mr. McBride for all their guidance and continuous help through every single challenge I experienced during the process. They truly helped me throughout the year in revising my topic, getting my materials, and just overall supporting me in the class. Thank you so much to Mrs. Petri and Mrs. Moss for lending their supplies to me to help conduct my research. I would also like to thank Mrs. Bell, Mrs. DiLacqua, and Mr. Winkleman for attending my presentation and providing me with constructive criticism that I was then able to incorporate within my final paper. Thank you so much to everyone who had to listen to me revise my presentation and was also able to provide me with feedback through my entire research process.
