In the past few years, space exploration has been a hot topic. Between SpaceX building and launching ships into space, the new rovers sent to Mars, and NASA’s plan to send humans back to the moon in 2024, there has been a lot of focus on the idea of possibly being able to travel to other planets in the near future. While this has become a real possibility in the past few years, it has always been a popular topic in science fiction novels and movies. Most of these books and movies are clearly not based on any scientific research because of the fictional element. However, some novels, such as The Martian and Interstellar, do have some scientifically accurate elements to them. Can the methods of survival in The Martian by Andy Weir provide a solution for survival on the surface of Mars for humans in real life?
