My project goal is to be able to rank each game I look at according to their sexist nature compared to their success in terms of how many people play them and how much they make. My hypothesis in this research is, that when video games tend to have more sexualization, then the game will have more success. With this, I conducted research looking at 5 different video games and comparing their statistics. I looked at their success compared to how sexualized the video games were in total (percentage). After gathering this data, I was able to see that there was a trend of more sexualized games having more success than games that had less sexualization. I was able to accept my hypotheses that sexualization and success did in fact have correlation.
AP Research has brought me a far way from where I was at the beginning of the year. I have grown tremendously considering myself as a writer. I have realized that I truly do enjoy doing research and conducting it myself. I can't wait to take the skills I have learns and put them towards my future in college where I can hopefully pursue research at CU Boulder. Going into Neuroscience, I would love to look at a more scientific take on research and use my skills from this class.
I learned a lot from the academic paper itself, I learned about how much time and dedication this class is and the commitment I needed to have to my research. Without it, I would have never been able to succeed in this class. I learned I need to manage my time more wisely and that peer review is one of the most essential parts of researching. Input from others can mean the difference in how well your paper turns out.
The research itself has shown me a lot about what video games actually look like up close. The toxic nature had become more relevant with the more and more research I did. It allowed me to get a first-hand look into why this toxic nature is happening and the urgency to put a stop to it.
I want to take this space to thank those of you who have helped me along the way! Firstly, I would like to thank my mentor Mr. Barker. Throughout this process, I have had countless questions and I needed guidance on my research. I wasn't sure where to go at times, and especially at the very start, I was a little lost. He was able to lead me in the right direction and even help me answer the unknowns. I would also like to thank Mrs. Dobos. She was able to guide me in the right direction when I didn't really know what I was doing or where I was going. She gave me guidance in the dark and without it, my research would have been far from successful.
Down below I have linked my final academic paper and presentation if you would like to take a look!
