My name is Chloe Farson, and I am a senior in AP Research at Rock Canyon High School.
Ever since I was young, I have taken a profound interest in Greek mythology, history, and art. I recall being extremely invested in the Trojan War in particular: I often used to read books detailing the stories of its heroes and their feats and fatal flaws.
In my freshman year English class, we read excerpts of the Odyssey as part of our course material, and needless to say I was ecstatic that the stories I had been so interested in when I was young had such a deep connection with higher education and historical scholarship. So, I decided to read the Iliad and the Odyssey on my own time, and I was enamored with the characters and their stories all over again.
In selecting my research topic, I hoped to build a base for future research I would like to conduct in college, where I plan to study Classics. I believed understanding the English translations first, therefore, could enable me to extend my research into the original Greek texts and delve beyond Homeric poetry. But for now, I have chosen to focus on the women, since their stories so often seem to be overshadowed and lost to time.
So, this is where my journey begins.
