What I learned from my research is that the change in skates and sticks from 1994 to 2024 was very drastic and has changed the way the game is played today. I say that it has changed the way the game is played because while I was conducting my research, I found that as the years went on, the average miles per hour of the players' shot speeds kept going higher and higher. In comparison, the player's average skate speeds also continued to rise over the years. Because players are shooting harder and skating faster, it has changed the pace of the game. Making it, in my opinion, more entertaining to watch because of the high-paced gameplay that is going on every second the players are on the ice. When I first started my research, I thought that players started switching over to composite sticks in the late 90s, but the truth was that players didn't start switching over till closer to 2012. I saw this same pattern with the skates as well. What I could potentially do next with my content is keep looking further into the stat part of this research. It would be cool to see how the change in the sticks and the skates has altered players' stats. Also, I would like to look into the goalie's equipment because that is also a major part of the game that has changed a lot over time, as goalies used to not wear masks, and they had leather pads. I could also relate this to the research I have already done and see if the change in the goalie's equipment has affected the players.

What I learned from my presentation, oral defense, and my academic paper is that I needed to focus more on my gap and implications. What I was able to learn from the panel and teachers was that I needed to go more into depth on why my research is important and why people should care about my project. With this feedback, I was able to add those certain things into my academic paper, which I believe made it a lot stronger and helped my readers learn and care more about my project. I can apply these pieces of feedback to my future learning because in the future I might have to write about a topic, and I will have to make my reader care about what they are reading about, because the best way to lure a reader in is to make them care.
Process:
What I learned from this project in general was that there is a lot more to hockey that I did not know about and that I still don't know about, even though I have been watching it my whole life there are so many little things that I have missed over the years, and if I knew about said things, maybe I would look at the game in a different perspective. I have also learned that I procrastinate a lot as a human being, which is something that I was trying to work on during this project, and I feel I have gotten a lot better at not procrastinating. That is something that I want to take away from this class, which is to not procrastinate your work because it will catch up to you, and now every time I go to a hockey game, I can pay closer attention to the players' equipment while they are playing.
Thank you:

Mrs. Dobos and Mr.McBride: For helping me throughout the entire process of my project, from creating a research question til my academic paper. And always checking in to see how my research is going.
Mrs.Burnham: For teaching me all the skills that I will need for this class, and always supporting me through all of my work.
Classmates: For looking over my work and making sure that it is professional and ready to be used for my project.
